I have had the HTC hero for more than 2 weeks now and it's an umbelivable piece of electronic engineering, simply amazing.
most apps for it are free and include things like a GPS app to find your car in crowded parking lots (excellent) , augmented reality GPS apps such as Layars (too good to describe), instant voice translation apps (that actually work) etc.
It is blazingly fast and surely does'nt miss any memory , specially after you substitute the puny 2GB card that HTC ships with the phone with a capacious 16GB; as for RAM it's got more than the N97 and it seems that it really does'nt need more than it's got: maybe (almost surely actually) android requires less juice than Win mob.
Unfortunately no voice dialing app (with BT support) is currently available for the Hero, and for a guy like me, sittingin his car most of my waking hours, this is an handicap that keeps the Hero from being my primary phone.
Last week Nokia invited me to a "N97 academy" meeting in its swanky Copenagen campus/headquarter, they gave us food and drinks (quite good really), filled our pockets with Nokia freebies (lanyards, stylii, clips, and a fancy alu 2GB, Nokia USB memory key) and helped us fix all and any problems we could come up with about the N97.
Now my N97 (after more than one OTA update a day and two new ROMs in the last 3 weeks, themes and apps downloads, and tedious app memory transfers) really is the killer machine which was not when it came out of its minimalistic box.
Have I sold the HTC touchHD then?
Well, no. It's just too good, and I love it too much to just ditch it.
I'll substitute it only when Ill be able to get an Snapdragon powered and win mob 6.5 equipped HTC Leo (Firestone).
By then though I think that I will also have substituted my N97 with an N900 Rover.
I know that I wrote that 3 smartphones are silly, but after all they are the best win mob telephone, the best Android and the best S60and I can find some use for each of them (I think).
